Hacken Lee's success today is mostly thanks to Vivian Chow
(abridged version of actual article)

Vivian Chow and Hacken Lee knew each when they were young.
(picture taken in 1989?)

Hacken Lee Hak Kan talked about how he had participated in the "4th New Talent Singing Awards" contest many years ago (1985), and how his permed hair stood out, but he lost in this contest. He was especially fortunate to be encouraged by Vivian Chow, who was also a contestant in the singing contest. Both of them later participated in the '19 Districts Singing Contest,' and because of this contest, Hacken has the opportunity to obtain today's success.

In the "4th New Talent Singing Awards" contest, Alex To Tak Wai won first place, while William So Wing Hong and Alvina Kong Yan Yin both won second place. Hacken Lee momentarily couldn't accept his loss and cried backstage. He didn't expect Vivian Chow, who had also lost in this competition, to go up to him and console him. Vivian also suggested that they both participate in the '19 Districts Amateur Singing Contest,' and because of this contest, Hacken has the opportunity to obtain today's success.

Turtles
Article written by Choi Lan (famous HK food critic and very good friend of Joe's father)
(abridged version of actual article)

I (Choi Lan) asked Ngai Hong (Joe Ngai's father), "What are you busy with lately?"

Ngai Hong: "Everyday is the same, sleeping after eating, eating after sleeping. My life in San Francisco hasn't changed."

"Besides going to buy vegetables or 'yam cha' (drink tea/eat dim sam), you don't want to go any other places?"

Ngai Hong said, "I recently went to my daughter's house. She went on vacation."

"Since she's not at home, are you helping her clean the house?"

"No, I'm helping her take care of her turtle. I told her turtles can still live even if they don't eat for a few days, but she didn't believe me."

Speaking of turtles, I know Ngai Hong is an expert in raising turtles, so whatever he says won't be wrong.

"Are those turtles the two turtles you used to have?...the turtles with hair growing out of them?"

"That wasn't hair, but algae. It's very difficult for a turtle's shell to grow algae, and it's called an 'algae haired turtle.' After I immigrated to San Francisco, I don't know what happened to the two turtles."

I reminded him, "Didn't you say you gave the turtles to Joe to take care of?"

"That's correct."  He said, "Afterwards, Joe came over, and then I don't know what happened. The turtles couldn't immigrate here."

Ngai Hong has a son and a daughter. His daughter is named Ngai Sui and her character is strange, just like her father. Ngai Jan (Joe) is also strange. Together with Vivian Chow, one person is in the east, the other person is in the west, and everybody knows about it, but that's their own matter...I won't ask Ngai Hong, and even if I know, I won't talk about it.

It's been a long time since I heard news about Joe. I recently received an e-mail from Joe which said he's changing his e-mail address, and he notified all his friends about this. I think he doesn't want to contact other people, or he hopes that people would contact him.

There's one thing that I always praise Joe for. He's completely filial and treats his father and mother good. Every time Joe's mother goes back to Hong Kong, Joe would always buy a first class airplane ticket for her. Back many years ago when the two turtles were left with Joe, Joe would buy fresh shrimp for them to eat everyday.

Show some mercy; Celebrities like to adopt

Vivian Chow acts in advertisement for dogs

After Vivian retired from showbiz, she would seldom be seen in public, but she would frequently do promotions for SAA (Society for Abandoned Animals). She would often bring her two Pomeranian dogs out for a walk, and she would tell everyone to think carefully before owning a pet. "Don't be greedy to want something fresh. If you already don't have any time or the ability to take care of them, then you shouldn't buy them."

Winnie Lau Siu Wai interview
(abridged version of actual article)

Winnie Lau (far left), Vivian Chow, Karen Tong, Vivian Lai Sui Yan (far right).

Back many years ago at PolyGram Records, there were three 'small flowers,' Vivian Lai Sui Yan, Karen Tong Bo Yue, and Winnie Lau Siu Wai. And now they've all gone their separate paths in life. Also, Vivian Chow became Joe Ngai's girlfriend who always follows him here and there (not true). When Winnie Lau was asked why she didn't attend Vivian Lai's wedding, Winnie honestly said, "I'm not that close with her."

Vivian is a "Thrifty Girl" for life

When Vivian and her female friend went shopping in February (pictured above), Vivian's body was still fit. She wore tight-fitting clothes which showed off her beautiful body shape. But two months later, her body shape increased by one size.

When Vivian was still a singer, her nickname "Thrifty Girl" was already very well known. But after she earned enough money and retired from showbiz, her "Thrifty Girl" personality still didn't change and even became more extreme. Last Wednesday (4/23), the reporter bumped into Vivian in Wan Chai and was able to see with her own eyes on how Vivian carefully did her shopping.

On that day, Vivian was wearing a face mask and was walking at the 'Fung Chak' store, but it was obvious that she wore heavy makeup on her eyes, which made them look really sharp. Her body shape has always been beautiful, but it was clear that her body has gained more weight, as she wore a loose-fitting short sleeve white shirt, which made her look like her body shape increased by one size. She wore mid-waist Donna jeans which were not only outdated, but also weren't quite fitting her body, as the hip area looked very tight.

The salesperson at the store recognized Vivian and took the initiative to approach her and answer any questions she might have. Vivian was planning to buy a television. She asked the salesperson to explain all the functions that the TV has and asked which brand has a discount. She wrote down all the information. She left the store after about half an hour, but she didn't buy anything. It was obvious she was only there to compare prices. After walking around the electrical store, she went to the supermarket to shop. She looked just like a regular housewife when she was pushing the shopping cart around to buy things. But after walking around for half an hour and looking all over the place, she only bought a pair of gloves which were on sale.

Knowing how to save and spend money wisely is indeed a commendable quality. It is believed that Vivian's boyfriend, Joe Ngai, also admires this quality of hers very much. But if every customer was like Miss Chow, then it would be pretty difficult for these stores not to go out of business!

(Note: Even though this reporter claims to have seen Vivian shopping, the reporter has no pictures of Vivian shopping, which makes this article less believable.)

Which singers would singers of today look forward to coming out of retirement?
(abridged version of actual article)

E-Kids -- Tommy

Yumiko Cheng

E-Kids -- Tommy (Yuen Man On) : Vivian Chow
When Vivian Chow first walks out, she looks just like a princess. Maybe we could work with Vivian on a prince and princess musical drama; we would dance while she would sing. Futhermore, I would really like to consult with Miss Chow on how she could take care of her skin which has not changed a bit.

Yumiko (Cheng Hei Yi) : Vivian Chow
It would definitely be Vivian Chow. I'm one of her loyal fans and have a collection of many of her CDs and photos! Many years ago, I even bought a lot of rare shiny idol cards that were expensive, too! I thought if I could sing a duet song with my idol, then that feeling would be quite interesting!

Benny Chan Ho Man entered showbiz because of Vivian Chow
(abridged version of actual article)

Benny Chan Ho Man (left) and Mak Bao (right).

Mak Bao (Mak Cheung Ching): Because we're short on time, let's ask a little about the goals you strive for, such as when you first entered the entertainment circle, did you think about what you wanted to do?

Benny: Me?

Mak Bao: Like nowadays, we all dream about going to Hollywood, and everyone hopes to leave Hong Kong!

Benny: No, actually I haven't planned for any kind of achievement. I entered showbiz because it's a job and I can earn a living. I just wanted to go in (to showbiz) to get an autograph!

Mak Bao: Then did you get it (autograph)?

Benny: Back then, I really liked Vivian Chow and hoped I could go into the TV station to get her autograph! I'm telling the truth; back then when I entered the entertainment circle, I would always think that I could see lots of celebrities, and then I would be able to ask them for their autographs!

Mak Bao: Were you finally able to get Vivian's autograph?

Benny: I didn't get it! At the time I entered, she already retired!

Mak Bao: I have it (autograph).

Benny: You have it? Hahaha! It might be fake!

Mak Bao: It's real! She (Vivian) signed it for me!

Leslie Cheung's viewing (wake)
(abridged version of actual article)

Back then before Vivian Chow retired from the entertainment circle, it was a big honor for her to have Leslie write the song "If You Knew My Reason" for her. Vivian thinks of Leslie as a person who has helped her significantly, and even though Vivian wore a face mask, it still couldn't hide the pain in her heart.
